Unboxing

Nokia Lumia 930 retail package

The retail package looks a lot like the Lumia 630. Thankfully, it comes with a proper microUSB cable and AC adapter, unlike the Lumia 630.

Design
Nokia Lumia devices always have a nice design. The Lumia 930 has a premium feel over last year's Lumia 920. The keys are all at the right side and it has a solid feel thanks to the metal frame.

However, we find that it's not comfortable to hold as it is too thick compared to flagship now a day. One thing we want to highlight about it is the 2.5D curved glass, which first found on the Nokia N9. The 2.5D curved glass provides better scrolling experience that we really like about it.

Display
The Lumia 930 sports a 5" Full HD AMOLED display with ClearBlack technology at 441 ppi.

The display is very contrast ad it shows good result when showing black background. We are truly amazed by its sharp display plus wide viewing angle.

Performance & Software
Powered by 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor with 2 GB of RAM. The Lumia 930 is fast and it brings unparallel performance.

Of course, the software also helps a lot. The optimization of Windows Phone 8.1 allows everything runs smoothly without any hiccup.

Windows Phone 8.1 with Cyan update

However, there are always something to loss. The amount of apps in Windows Phone Store just can't catch up Google Play Store and Apple Apps Store. In addition, you can't customize the phone much.

Lockscreen | Start screen | Application list | Theme settings

Thankfully Windows Phone 8.1 has brought the support of background photo at the Start screen, but not all tiles support this feature.

Action center | Notifications settings

With Action Center, you are able to check out your notification or access to the quick settings.

Cortana

Cortana is the personal assistant for you. It's something like Siri and Google Now. You can set your reminder or ask for weather condition. Sadly, Cortana currently is only available in US and UK regions. So make sure you switch to the right region in order to use it.

Camera
Being a flagship device, the Lumia 930 packs a 20 MP camera with Zeiss optics and PureView technology.

Camera interface

It comes with Nokia camera with more features compared to Windows Phone camera app. There's a full manual mode so you are able to adjust the shutter speed, ISO and more. Additionally, it will capture 20 MP and 5 MP photos simultaneously.

Camera samples (20 MP)

The camera quality is decent but there's a small disappointment. The images are not as sharp as it should be, probably because of the noise reduction. Color reproductions are a little bit blown out but we are satisfied on its camera. So far the Lumia 930 has one of the best camera in a smartphone.

Battery
The 2,420 mAh battery may be a little but too small for a flagship device now a day. The battery life is not that good, it can last for around 5 hours for heavy usage. And when you putting it in the pocket, it will heat up sometimes which also causes battery drains.

Final Words

Pricing at RM 1,999, the Lumia 930 us actually a well-worth flagship cameraphone. It has a great camera and unparallel performance. But with the limitations of Windows Phone and such pricing, you may consider an Android flagship device.

Pros
- Brilliant display
- Decent camera
- Impressive performance

Cons
- Unimpressive battery life
- Windows Phone Store apps are less
- Thick design with heavy weight
