Sony announced Xperia ZR, younger brother to Xperia Z

Sony has announced their new waterproof device - Xperia ZR. The Xperia ZR can be said to be the younger sibling to the Xperia Z.

Experience a smartphone that can film Full HD video recording underwater.

In terms of specs, the Xperia ZR packs with some same features as Xperia Z, it is powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, Adreno 320 GPU and 2 GB of RAM.

The Xperia ZR is also a water and dust resistant which is IP55 & IP58 certification that can submerged 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes, it is great success as the Xperia Z just can submerge at 1 meter of water. To allow you easily take photos or videos under water, the Xperia ZR also has a camera dedicated button, something that makes Xperia Z and Xperia V owners regret.

Xperia ZR has 8 GB internal storage with microSD card slot, it has a 4.55" 720p HD OptiContrast display. Sony is marketing the handset as having the “highest level of water-resistance for filming in Full HD underwater”.
On the camera sides, it has a 13 MP Exmor RS sensor camera that capable for 1080p and HDR for videos and photos, but the front camera has only VGA resolution, Sony should put a 1.3 MP resolution on it.

Other features included LTE, NFC, MHL and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. It still offers a 2,300 mAh battery but we believed it will be having a longer battery life than Xperia Z and Xperia ZL.

This smartphone comes in a range of stunning colours.

The Sony Xperia ZR is coming soon to Malaysia around end of Q2 or beginning of Q3 2013. There's no pricing details but we expected it will be around RM 1,599.
