HTC has just announced the new HTC One (M8) in London, UK and New York, USA. The device sports a 5" display with 1080p resolution at 440 ppi.
Powering the device is a Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz with 2 GB of RAM. The device has 16 GB and 32 GB internal storage and it is expandable via microSD card up to 128 GB.
The new HTC One sports a unibody made of 90% metal as opposed to 70% for its predecessor. As usual the device has the same dual frontal stereo speakers, BoomSound, as the 2013's One but it does not support Beats Audio music enhancement.
As for the camera unit, the new One has Duo Camera at the back with UltraPixel tech. The sensor is the same 4 MP BSI one with giant 2µm pixels, but there's a new imaging processor attached and HTC has ditched the optical image stabilization tech. The second camera is actually a depth sensor. It allows the One to perform all sorts of neat tricks especially in post processing, such as blurring backgrounds or changing the focus point just like Nokia Refocus app. It has also 5 MP front-facing shooter too.
Juicing up the device is a 2,600 mAh battery with the promised of 20 hours talk time. It also comes with Extreme power saving mode, which maximise the standby time up to 40 days.
Connectivity sides are including Bluetooth 4.0, dual-band 802.11ac WiFi, AWS compatible LTE, NFC, an accelerometer, gyroscope and barometer.
The device is running on Android 4.4 KitKat with Sense 6 UI. The Sense 6 UI has redesigned with customizable colour themes. The new Sense version also comes with some features, Motion Launch is a pretty significant new feature. When the phone senses movement it "listens" for prompts to launch particular apps or actions. The Motion Sense feature allows users double tap to turn on the phone and double tap to turn off the phone, which is pretty similar to the LG's Knock-On feature.
The new One also comes with some interesting accessories. One of it is the Dot View case, extends those features, by allowing you to tap the case twice to receive notifications without turning on the phone's display.
The new One is measured at 146.36 x 70.6 x 9.35 mm and weight at 160 g.
The device comes in gunmetal gray, glacial silver and amber gold. Meanwhile, the Asian version will be powered by 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor unlike the international version. No word on the availability and pricing in Malaysia but we will cover it later.
Furthermore, the device also has Google Play and Developer editions for American market. Are you excited on the new HTC One (M8)? Leave a comment to let us know.
