Unboxing

Ninetology U9Z1T retail package

Just as usual Ninetology packed the U9Z1T with its accessories into a big box. You'll get a phone casing too but this time it's not the flip casing, unlike the U9Z1.

Design
Design is one of the factors that why people buy the phone. The U9Z1T breaks its tradition and try out something new.

The front looks like Asus ZenFone 5 despite it doesn't have spin cut design below the display and the back reminds us HTC One X and Sony Xperia TX. It's good to see that Ninetology has decided not to stuck at same design language. The phone is made out of plastic but it doesn't feel cheap like some other phones.

Display
Display wise, it sports a 5" HD IPS display that produces accurate colors and wide viewing angle.

Ninetology U9Z1T 5" display

Perhaps people will think that 720p is not enough for a 5" device, but who cares when a human eyes can't even tell you the difference. The display is bright so you won't be having hard time to view it under bright daylight.

Performance
When you heard it supports 4G LTE, you probably will know that the Ninetology U9Z1T is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. Its quad-core CPU is clocked at 1.2 GHz, and it's a Snapdragon 400 SoC accompanied with 1 GB of RAM.

It's not a big problem when comes to multitasking and playing high graphic games like Real Racing 3. The Snapdragon 400 chipset is the most satisfy chipset we ever used for a mid-ranger.

Software
And finally, here comes the software. The Ninetology U9Z1T is running on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean with NQ live launcher.

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean

The U9Z1T isn't running a stock-like UI but it comes with the new NQ live launcher, which is a big improvement.

Lockscreen | Homescreen | Apps drawer

The new NQ live launcher feels like some other 3rd party launcher such as Go Launcher. You can change the transition effect and even the themes.

Menu and Quick Access

Swipe up at the homescreen allows you to customize the phone and swipe down allows you to clear RAM and quick access to the connectivity toggles.

Themes Selection | Task Switcher | Notification area | Quick Settings

You can download themes from its market store and the task switcher now looks like MIUI. The notification area and quick settings have also redesigned, it is now more polished but you can't keep the notification clean as it will show you the data you've used. The quick settings section now comes with toggles as well as shortcuts.

Camera
Although it's a mid-ranger, but it comes with a 13 MP camera at the back. Sadly, it is only able to record 720p videos, which is kind of something abnormal.

Camera interface and modes

The camera interface is pretty simple, it comes with the same functionality as previous Google camera. The capture speed is quite slow and it takes around 3 seconds to focus an object.

The camera quality lacks of contrast but it's not bad at all as sometimes it sticks close to the actual colors. Surprisingly, the low-light shoots are quite good although it's unable to capture more light, but the details are there.

Battery
To overcome 4G LTE network from draining battery, the Ninetology U9Z1T comes with a 2,000 mAh battery. The battery life is average - not extremely long and short. We didn't test out the on-screen time with LTE network on so we can't tell you the exact used time, but we're okay with Wi-Fi on.

Final words

The Ninetology U9Z1T is priced at RM 899, you'll get up to RM 200 rebate if you're Maxis, U Mobile and DiGi users. All you need to do is head over to Ninetology's official website and register for the rebate then print out the voucher. As conclusion, it's great to see that Ninetology has decided to step up and make a big move. The U9Z1T is just a starting, we're looking forward to Ninetology device in the future.
