Availability of Xiaomi devices in Malaysia

Xiaomi has announced the Mi Note yesterday and it seems that we will get to taste it in Q2 2015. What does this mean? Mi Malaysia has officially confirmed that the Mi Note will be available in Malaysia in Q2 2015.

So how about other Xiaomi devices like the Mi Pad and Mi 4? Let's talk about the Mi Pad first, the Mi Pad has just passed through SIRIM database, which means it will be available in Malaysia very soon.

The Mi Pad features 7.9" display with the resolution of 2,048 x 1,536, giving the pixel density of 326 ppi. It is the only Xiaomi device to be powered by Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset. The slate has 2 GB of RAM and 64 GB expandeable storage. Other specs are 8 MP rear camera, 5 MP front camera and 6,700 mAh battery.

As for the Mi 4 which announced last year, Xiaomi Global VP Hugo Barra has confirmed that the Mi 4 will not available in Malaysia officially. Barra noted that the Mi 4 was designed for the Chinese market, and some of these hardware optimisations made it impossible for Xiaomi engineers to redesign the internals for an international Mi 4 variant that supports LTE bands in the markets Xiaomi is in. He also stated that Xiaomi Global discussed at length whether to bring the 3G-only model into countries with advanced LTE penetrations such as Singapore and Malaysia, before pulling the plug on the idea. Meanwhile, India will be the only market that selling the Mi 4 officially besides China. However, Malaysian can still get the Mi 4 through grey import retailers.
