Sony announced Xperia SP and L

The Sony press event finally over. As expected, the Xperia SP and L were announced few hours ago. So, what do the Xperia SP and L look like? Let's go for little walkthrough.

Sony Xperia SP

The rumors are finally over, now the Xperia SP goes official. Xperia SP is a beautiful handset that comes with a transparent bar at the bottom of phone, last seen in the Xperia NXT series from last year.

Sony has confirmed that this “transparent element” has “customisable illuminations which you can personalise to alert you of incoming calls and text messages. And you can even set the illuminations to pulse to the beat of your favourite music.” 

The Xperia SP are comes with expected specs. It is powered by 1.7GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960T Snapdragon chipset with a Adreno 320 GPU similar to Sony flagship. The phone will also having 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory (5.5GB available for Media and Apps) and also support micro-SD card slot.
The Xperia SP will having a 4.6" 720p display. Besides that, Xperia SP are the first Sony handset that using Corning Gorilla Glass for screen protection but not the shatter proof on scratch-resistant glass. The devices will having 8MP Exmor RS camera sensor that capable for HDR photos and 1080p video recording. There's also VGA front-facing camera.

Sensor support includes an accelerometer, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor and gyroscope (the handset does not include a magnetometer). Other features include NFC, PlayStation Certified, microSIM, MHL and Bluetooth 4.0.

For battery life, the Xperia SP can long for more than 10 hours talk time because of it 2370mAh battery. It also support LTE connectivity for lightning fast connection.

The Xperia SP has dimensions of 130.6 x 67.1 x 9.98 mm and weighs 155 grams. The handset will launch with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean in three colours (Black, Red and White Silver). In terms of release date, Sony says that the Xperia SP will be available globally from Q2 2013.

Sony Xperia L

The Xperia L is another mid-range chipset, it is powered by Qualcomm MSM8230 Snapdragon chipset with Adreno 305 GPU. The phone will also be 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (5.6GB available for Media and Apps) and also support micro-SD card slot.

Xperia L

From the image above, the Xperia L looks like Xperia J, think that it is a refresh and dual-core version of Xperia J, just like HTC Desire V and Desire X.

Xperia L features with a 4.3" FWVGA (480x854 pixels) display and support multi-touch up to 4 fingers. It support SCOTT scratch-reesistant glass. The Xperia L are also sport a 8MP camera but with 720p video recording. Similarly, there's also a VGA front-facing camera.

The Xperia L will come with a 1750mAh typical (1700mAh minimum) battery capacity allowing 8 hours 30 mins of 3G talktime. Other features include NFC, PlayStation Certified and Bluetooth 4.0. Sensor support includes accelerometer, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor and magnetometer.

The Xperia L has dimensions of 128.7 x 65 x 9.7 mm and weighs 137 grams. The Xperia L will launch globally with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean during Q2. It will come in three colours – black, red and white.

I don't expect this phone to match the HTC One or other phones with 1080P displays. But I think it is fair to compare it with other phones with 720P displays like the Galaxy SIII, HTC One X, etc.
