Oppo unveils the N3 and R5 smartphone

Oppo today has officially unveiled the N3 and R5 in Singapore.

Oppo N3

The Oppo N3, which is the second generation of the N1 has been shrunken down significantly compared to its predecessor. That’s at the cost of a slightly smaller display of 5.5-inch, compared to 5.9-inch on the N1. The N3 is shorter, narrower, and about 20 grams lighter than the first-gen, albeit a millimeter thicker.

A lustrous steel frame design around the device while the swiveling camera features a design touch – faux leather and faux stitching, just like on the white Note 3 from last year. On the back, the marquee feature is the touch-based fingerprint scanner, which is surrounded by a metallic frame.

Unlike the Galaxy S5 and Note 4 which you need to slide over the sensor to unlock the phone, you can just skip the lockscreen with a simple touch on the fingerprint scanner.

At the bottom, the unique Skyline notification light has been made visible from both sides of the phone, so you won’t miss any notifications even when the phone is lying on its screen.

The Oppo N3 also comes with its own O-Click remote, which has the functionality to control music playback and the swiveling camera. From finding your phone, to snapping a shot and changing tunes from a distance.

Oppo R5

Alongside with the unveiling of the N3 is the extraordinary thin Oppo R5. With just 4.85mm thick, this mid-range smartphone became the thinnest phone in the world that you can actually buy.

Oppo R5 specifications

The R5 runs with Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor under the hood which you might dismiss it as a mid-ranger smartphone, but Qualcomm positions it in the middle of the range, behind the high-end 805/810 (quad-core processor). Also, you get 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, a beautiful AMOLED Full HD display, a 13MP camera with a Sony sensor (similar to what you got in Oppo’s devices from last year), and a respectable (for the phone’s thickness) 2,000 mAh battery.

Not only it's impressive thin design but the R5 also features a straight metallic frame and angular corners. Similar to the Oppo N3, the R5 comes with a VOOC Mini fast charger, that should allow you to charge the 2,000 mAh battery very fast. Also, it runs with ColorOS 2.0 (based on Android 4.4 KitKat).

Stay tuned as we will update the availability of this devices in Malaysia.
