Nokia X, X+ and XL will not getting X Platform 2.0 update

Followed by the launch of Nokia X2, Microsoft Mobile has announced that the Nokia X, X+ and XL will not getting the X Platform 2.0 update, which is currently running on the Nokia X2.

The new Nokia X 2.0 Platform is based on Android API 18 (which corresponds to 4.3 Jelly Bean) and brings a number of changes to the UI. There are four tiles per line of the homescreen, which is upgraded from three.

The new Nokia X 2.0 Platform has new app list on its homescreen, which looks like Windows Phone. Other changes are included the Home button, improved camera UI, Fastlane and the virtual keyboard.

“Because of the necessary hardware upgrades, the Nokia X software platform 2.0 won’t be available on Nokia X, Nokia X+ or Nokia XL. However, more updates will be coming to further improve the experience of those devices in the coming months,” says Yannis Paniaras, Head of the Mobile Phones UX Design Studio at Microsoft in Beijing.

We believe that the main reason for the Nokia X, X+ and XL unable to upgrade to Nokia X 2.0 Platform is the hardware. The new Nokia X2 has 1 GB of RAM over 768 MB and 512 MB of RAM, Cortex-A7 CPU over Cortex-A5 and the Home button. However, Nokia has promised that the Nokia X, X+ and XL will still receive more updates.
