The Asus Fonepad 8 (FE380CG) is an 8" tablet with dual-SIM, 3G phone functionality. It is powered by 1.33 GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3530 64-bit processor. It has an incredibly narrow 5.06 mm bezel, and 8" HD (1280 x 800 pixels) IPS display and 72.2% screen-to-body ratio provide the largest viewing area of any 8-inch phablet on the market.
The slate features dual front stereo speakers with SonicMaster tech that brings a new level of engagement to movies, music and games. It has a 5 MP PixelMaster camera accompanied with 2 MP front camera.
The Asus Fonepad 8 is running on Android 4.4 KitKat with ZenUI. It will be available with 8 GB and 16 GB of onboard storage, which can be further expanded with up to 64 GB of MicroSD card storage.
The slate is priced from RM 649 with black, white, red and gold color options. It is now available at local IT stores and Asus authorized resellers within this week.
Besides the Fonepad 8, Asus Malaysia also introduced the MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL). The MeMO Pad 8 is world's lightest 8" LTE tablet weighing at just 299 g.
The slate has an 8" Full HD IPS display with a 178-degree wide-view angle, and it is only 123 mm wide which means you are able to hold it comfortably with one hand. Asus claims that you no need to apply screen protector on it as its screen is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. You can actually write on the screen with pencil, so that you can have a true writing experience.
Powering the device is a 1.8 GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3560 64-bit processor with 2 GB of RAM. The slate also comes with 802.11ac Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity, as well as NFC for simple, one-touch sharing of photos, music and more between Android and other NFC-enabled device.
Unlike the Fonepad 8, the MeMO Pad 8 dual stereo speakers are located at the back. It has a 5 MP camera at the back that capable for 1080p video recording, while the 1.2 MP front camera is capable for 720p video recording.
Juicing up the slate is a 4,000 mAh with promised 9 hours battery life, the MeMO Pad 8 is priced at RM 1,099 and will be available by the end of this month with white, pink and blue colors.
